SSDI Changes & Payment Schedule For 2025

As we head into the new year, there are some updates being made to Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

Here are the 2025 changes you should be aware of and important payment dates to keep an eye out for:

2025 SSDI Income Limits (SGA):

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has an income cap in place to determine who is eligible for SSDI. They call this cap “Substantial Gainful Activity” (SGA). According to the SSA, any person who can work and earn over the SGA limit is considered ineligible for SSDI.

In 2025, to qualify for SSDI, you must be unemployed or working and earning under $1,620.

2025 SSDI Benefit Amount increases:

The SSA modifies the benefit amount SSDI recipients earn each year based on the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

The COLA is determined by the Department of Labor. It is based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W). The CPI-W monitors consumer buying trends and prices of goods. When the CPI-W is higher, it indicates inflation. When there is an increase in inflation, COLA increases to ensure that beneficiaries are receiving enough money to live comfortably.

The 2025 COLA is 2.5%, meaning each SSDI beneficiary will see a 2.5% increase in their monthly payments.

With this adjustment, the average SSDI payment will increase from $1,784 to $1,829. The maximum monthly payment someone can receive from SSDI will increase from $3,822 to $3,917.

These increases begin this month, January 2025!

SSDI Payment Schedule & 2025 Payment Dates:

Monthly payments may be increasing in 2025, but the SSDI payment schedule rules will remain the same.
